EVA CLAESSENS

Antwerp, Belgium

Bio

Eva Claessens is a Belgian-born, internationally acclaimed artist whose work transcends borders and disciplines. Over the past three decades, her art has been exhibited and collected across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, captivating audiences through her exploration of the human form and the profound emotions it conveys.

From a young age, Eva knew her life would be devoted to art. “Since I was little, I fell in love with drawing—it was all I wanted to do,” she recalls. That early certainty led her to pursue formal studies at the Perugia School of Fine Arts on a full scholarship at just eighteen. Her artistic journey has since taken her from Antwerp to Florence, Israel, India, Jamaica, Chicago, and ultimately Uruguay, where she now lives and works.

Eva’s art—rooted in light, movement, and emotion—focuses on the human body as both subject and metaphor. Her paintings, often described as intimate and timeless, invite viewers to feel rather than define. “My work is not intellectual; it is emotional. I like to leave a sense of openness, as if the piece were unfinished—like life itself—so the viewer can complete it with their own eyes."

Working primarily with acrylics, sculpture, handmade prints, and ceramics, Eva seamlessly moves between two and three dimensions, often transforming her sculptural forms into new canvases. This dialogue between mediums reflects her ongoing exploration of connection—between man and woman, body and spirit, the tangible and the transcendent.

Eva Claessens continues to divide her time between countries, embodying the spirit of a true citizen of the world—an artist whose work reminds us of the universal beauty that unites us all.
